How To Build A Bar Step Two - Framing The Bar

Framing your bar is just how it sounds. You are going to build a frame or skeleton for the bar. You'll do this with 2x4s, wood screws, and glue.

We'll start with the front, or customer side, of the bar. This is just going to be a 108" by 42" box basically. We'll use tow pieces of 108" 2x4 and six pieces of 39" 2x4. On the back, or bartender side, of this frame we are going to add another 2x4 with a length of 101". This extra 2x4 will be used as a ledge to support the lower counter top later on. You can add it now or add it later.

The next thing that were going to build is the sides of the bar. We need two 17" 2x4s, two 39" 2x4s, and one 14" 2x4. The 14" piece of wood will be used to support the lower counter top later on and should be attached between the vertical supports 21" from the bottom board.

The last piece to build is the back, or bartender side, of the bar. We need one 105", one 108", two 40.5", and three 21" 2x4s. The longest piece will be the bottom and the two 40.5" pieces will be the vertical supports. The 105" piece will run parallel to the 108" board and will be supported by three 21" boards.

Now that you have the frame build for the front, back, and sides of your home bar, all you need to do is assemble it. The side pieces will go on the inside of the front and back and all should be screwed together with wood screws. Below is a picture of the front and back view of what your frame should look like.
